Youth Advisory Board

Youth Advisory Board

Our work with children and young people is a vital part of what we do at The Money Charity. Our Youth Advisory Board helps us to shape what young people want and need to know about managing their money well.

As well as providing us with vital insights into what young people think and feel about Financial Education, the board members have opportunities to develop key skills like organisation, public speaking, team work and decision making. Most importantly, they get to have their say about how we shape our work with children and young people.

Ashton Shepherd

Youth Advisory Board Member

Ashton is a Financial Education advocate and founder of a website. He is passionate about improving financial literacy and ensuring young people have the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about money given how much money shapes our lives. As a Youth Advisory Board Member for The Money Charity, he’s committed to using his unique experiences to ensure that Financial Education reflects the needs of young people today.

Emmanuel Brobbey-Gyening

Youth Advisory Board Member

Emmanuel is a final year Economics student at Durham University and a Black Heart Foundation scholar. His path to Durham took him through a state school and then a boarding school in Buckinghamshire on scholarship, an experience that shaped his interest in access and educational opportunity, something he has spoken at the House of Commons about. Growing up he saw first-hand how a lack of financial knowledge could negatively impact choices made by people around him, and that’s stuck with him. Bilingual and fascinated by financial markets, he joined the Youth Advisory Board to help make Financial Education more relevant to young people from a wider range of backgrounds.

Outside his studies, he’s into a variety of sports including basketball, table tennis, football and many more.

Eszter Gereszdi

Youth Advisory Board Member

Eszter is a final year Law & Anthropology student at the LSE, and an aspiring investment banker thereafter. Having attended a private school as a bursary student, she is keen to use her experiences to improve access to financial education and widen participation in higher education. As a member of the Youth Advisory Board, she enjoys helping shape resources that make financial topics more accessible and relevant to young people, and is passionate about improving relevant policy.

Alongside her studies, Eszter mentors younger students applying to university and scholarships, drawing upon her own experiences. She is particularly interested in how education and financial literacy can create greater opportunities for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.

Outside of university, Eszter enjoys fashion design, ice skating, creating art and exploring new cultures and perspectives.

Gabriella Bedford

Youth Advisory Board Member

Gabriella is an award-winning Financial Education campaigner and personal finance writer who has just finished her first year at the University of Oxford studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

She has written two reports on Financial Education, one of which was featured by The Times and the BBC, and has worked with a range of charities on promoting Financial Education for young people. She has also worked with the Money and Pensions Service, Bank of England, and her work has been featured in an Education Committee report. She has been interested in personal finance from a young age, appearing on the Martin Lewis Money Show aged 12 for saving her parents money.

In her spare time (although most of it is taken up with money), she is a big F1 fan and often writes articles about motorsport. She is also heavily involved in politics so you’ll probably find her out on the doors canvassing!

Lucy Blundell

Youth Advisory Board Member

Lucy is a recent graduate from the University of York, where she earned a degree in Social and Political Sciences. She joins The Money Charity’s Youth Advisory Board with a strong commitment to ensuring young people’s voices shape the Financial Education they receive.

Her dissertation explored young adults’ perspectives on financial capability and preparedness in England, examining how school education, family background and lived financial experiences influence young people’s financial understanding and confidence. A central focus of her research was listening to young people’s own stories: how they understand and reflect on what shaped their Financial Capability.

Lucy is particularly passionate about making Financial Education practical and engaging. She believes that effective provision must be co-designed with young people, not just delivered to them.

Matthew Costa-D'sa

Youth Advisory Board Member

Matthew is a member of our Youth Advisory Board and is looking forward to contributing to our work around Financial Education and Wellbeing.

He has recently finished his A levels and is planning to take a year out before starting at Durham University in 2027, where he will study Economics. Alongside volunteering with The Money Charity, Matthew works as a swim coach and lifeguard, saving up for university and plans to travel around Australia this autumn.

Outside of work and volunteering, Matthew enjoys both playing and watching sports, particularly swimming, football, cricket and golf.

Ubhay Ashfaq

Youth Advisory Board Member

Ubhay is a Solicitor Apprentice at Freshfields, where he rotates between the firm’s practice areas while studying for his LLB at BPP University. He spent his first year in the Competition, Antitrust & Trade team and is now part of the ESG & Mass Claims team.

Much of Ubhay’s work sits in youth employment and skills policy. He advises the Government’s Youth Guarantee Advisory Panel and contributed to the Milburn Review examining the barriers facing young people entering work. He is also an Ambassador for the Youth Futures Foundation and the ONE Campaign, and serves on the UCAS Apprenticeships Advisory Board and the Eastern City BID Next Gen Steering Group.

Through that work, Ubhay has become increasingly interested in Financial Education. Many of the challenges facing young people are ultimately questions of money, yet financial literacy is often treated as a niche issue rather than a life skill. Ubhay joined the Youth Advisory Board because he believes young people should be given the knowledge and confidence to make informed financial decisions before those decisions begin shaping the opportunities available to them.

Outside work and study, Ubhay comes from a theatre and drama background and regularly speaks to students about apprenticeships, social mobility and routes into the professions.

Saanvi Shenoy

Youth Advisory Board Member

Saanvi is a third-year Law student at the University of Warwick, graduating in summer 2027.

She previously sat on the Norfolk Youth Advisory Board, an experience that solidified her interest in youth-led advocacy and demonstrated how boards like this can drive real change.

Having attended an all-girls’ school, Saanvi noticed how resigned many of her peers felt about managing their own money, often assuming it wasn’t something they needed to worry about. This sparked her interest in financial education, particularly empowering young women to build confidence and independence with their finances.

Outside of her studies, Saanvi trains in Thai boxing and enjoys listening to live jazz.

Yammi Mendes-Victor

Youth Advisory Board Member

Yammi is an aspiring medic who was born and raised in London. She was inspired to join the Youth Advisory Board because throughout her time at school and college, she met countless peers who felt intimidated by money as a result of a poor Financial Education and she wants to change that.

She hopes that through working with The Money Charity, she can help other young people feel more confident about having and managing money.
